Do you have to pay for Mindset?

Do you have to pay for Mindset?

Mindset represents you with no upfront or out-of-pocket costs! Mindset is only paid a one-time, 25% portion of the awarded back pay, directly from SSA, if you are approved for benefits.

What does this mean?

When you choose Mindset as your disability advocate, you can rest easy knowing there are no upfront costs. We operate on a contingency fee basis, which means we only get paid if we assist in successfully securing benefits for you. Our fee is set at 25% of your back pay and does not affect your ongoing monthly payments for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI).

It’s important to understand that this 25% fee isn’t unique to Mindset. In fact, it’s the standard fee structure set by the Social Security Administration (SSA) for all disability representatives.

What is back pay?

Back pay is the amount of benefits you’re owed from the time you became eligible for disability benefits until your application is approved. It is essentially a lump sum payment that covers the money you should have received while waiting for your disability claim to be approved. Think of it as the government saying, “We owe you for the time you were eligible but not yet receiving benefits.”

How does payment work?

If your claim is approved, you don’t need to worry about paying us directly. The SSA will automatically deduct our fee from your back pay before sending you the remainder. This ensures a smooth, hassle-free process for you.

As an overview:

  • No upfront costs: We only receive a fee if you are awarded benefits.

  • Fee amount: 25% of awarded back pay, capped at $9,200, or whichever is lower, paid directly by SSA.

  • Payment timing: One-time fee, deducted only if benefits are approved.

  • Ongoing benefits: Your monthly SSI or SSDI payments remain unaffected.
